DiGiacomo, Achilles
Achilles F. DiGaicomo was born on March 1, 1921 to Joseph and Beatrice DiGaicomo in in Wilmington, Delaware. The family later moved to Kennett Square. Both of Achilles' parents were botn in Italy. Achilles was one of three children.
Achilles graduated from high school in 1939 and later was employed by the Richter Department Store.
Achilles entered the Army in 1942. His unit shipped overseas to the European of Theater of Operations, where he served in North Africa. He was hospitalized for several months after contracting a deadly disease.
Sergeant Achilles F. DiGaicomo died non-combat on May 18, 1944, in White Sulfur Spring, West Virginia. He is buried at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Kennett Square.
His brother Ralph also served during the war.
